Sure, fairies have wings, they can fly around anywhere they want to. But sometimes fairies can’t fly, like when it is raining or when they are injured. Sometimes it is just easier to hitch a faster ride, especially if they are traveling a very long distance. Sure, fairies can fly, but just like us humans when we walk, they get tired sometimes. If a fairy has a long way to go, especially over a body of water, they will need to enlist one of their animal kingdom friends to help them out.
When traveling by land there are many, many choices for the fairies, but there are a few that are their favorites. Human pets generally are not a choice for the fairies, as these animals, like their human owners, tend to be confused that pixies and fairies are some sort of pest. When in need of a sly friend to sneak them someplace the fairies will enlist the help of the fox. The fox is quick and agile and sneaky too! When the fairies need to go through small places on their travels they will have the mice help them out. Mice can sneak into the smallest of holes and areas, so they are great for fairy trips that might take them through holes in barns and people’s houses.
When traveling by air, and not able to use their own wings, fairies use many of their bird friends. For shorter distances if it is just raining out a chickadee will usually do. But for longer distances hawks and eagles help out the fairies. You may think that predatory birds would hunt the pixies and fairies, but they do not because pixies and fairies make good babysitters to eggs and hatchlings when both parents need time away! Fairies sometimes even hitch rides on frogs and toads when they just need a quick “jump” over something that stands in their way!
When traveling by water, over small or big lakes, streams or ponds, fairies have many wet friends that love to help out. If it is just a short distance that the fairy needs to cross and can not fly because of rain or injury a turtle or beaver will be glad to help out. When traveling across bigger masses of water though the fairy have more of a difficult time. See, the large body water animals all need to immerse themselves under water at times to breath and keep their skin wet, so the fairy has to where his or her scuba gear on the trip! Friends like the whale, the dolphin and even the seal are happy to help out a fairy on a long journey.
So, even if fairies did not have their glorious wings, they would still be able to get anywhere they wanted to go with the help of their furry, slimy and even wet friends! Animals and fairies live in a world where everyone gets along, or at least knows their place. The animals that do not like the fairies normally do not even see the fairies existence, like most humans.
